This volume in the Glyptotek’s series of catalogues deals with Egyptian coffins, mummy adornments and mummies from the period 1080 BC – AD 400.

The catalogue presents 17 coffins or fragments thereof, 5 mummy masks, 10 mummy busts, 8 mummy portraits and 4 mummies, all of which are illustrated in colour photographs and accompanied by descriptive texts.

The history of the Egyptian coffin is dealt with in the introduction, which also provides an account of the mummies and their adornments. The book concludes with a chronological table, and a glossary which covers the many gods, symbols, concepts and locations which the reader will encounter in the catalogue.
