Designed exclusively for the exhibition The Power of Fashion in the Roman Empire, this scarf transforms the art of ancient dress into a contemporary accessory. Its flowing print is inspired by the sculpted drapery of garments seen on Roman statues, where folds in stone still convey movement, elegance and status. Stripes in pink, violet and blue explore the rich spectrum once associated with purpura, or Tyrian purple - the Roman Empire's most precious textile dye, extracted from sea snails. Far more than a single shade, purpura ranged from deep reds and luminous pinks to violets and blues.
